Philip Solis covers mobile device semiconductors with a focus on wireless connectivity solutions and 5G. His wireless connectivity coverage includes Wi-Fi, WiGig, Bluetooth, 802.15.4, GNSS, and NFC chipsets across standalone chips, combo chips, and integrated SoCs. Coverage of 5G includes the underlying technologies, company alliances and trade groups, and government investment in research and development.

Recent coverage includes integrated platforms across applications processors, mobile basebands, and wireless connectivity, as well as trends across LTE baseband solutions, architecture across x86/ARM/MIPs solutions, heterogeneous processing, reference designs, and more. He leverages 10 years at ABI Research covering a wide range of topics, including Wi-Fi and 4G chipsets, Wi-Fi networking equipment, VoWi-Fi, GPS, cellular modems, netbooks and media tablets, mobile consumer electronics, smartphones and smartphone OSs, WiMAX and LTE infrastructure, intellectual property and mobile device royalties, and personal robotics.

Past Experience, Memberships, Accolades and Media
Prior to joining ABI Research, Phil worked as a Sales Engineer in the Enterprise Solutions Group of Verizon Communications, a role in which he provided technical sales support for ISP partners and also designed, recommended, and implemented telecommunications network solutions. Earlier, he held positions as Engineering Specialist in the Network Engineering Center, and Manager in the Telesector Resource Group at Verizon.

Phil has been quoted and published in a variety of industry media, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Investor’s Business Daily, BusinessWeek, EE Times, GigaOm and WiFiNetNews, and has spoken, moderated, or participated in industry events including 4G World, 4G Wireless Evolution, WCA Symposium, WCA International, and GlobalComm, as well as many smaller conferences and private events.

Education
Phil holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and has an MBA with a dual concentration in Marketing and Information Systems from Pace University’s Lubin School of Business.
