Meet & learn from the Wi-Fi CARRIERS @ Wi-Fi NOW

CarriersWiFiBlog

Wi-Fi carriers are growing faster than ever before. I believe it’s a consequence of three simple Wi-Fi facts: Very low infrastructure cost, great performance, and lots of innovation. Here are some of the best in the business from both sides of the Atlantic – and you get to meet them at Wi-Fi NOW in November:

BT (UK) has been championing the ‘homespot’ service for years and today serves up millions of Wi-Fi hotspots in the UK. They’re also one of the driving forces in international Wi-Fi roaming, which is becoming a no-brainer for carriers worldwide. At Wi-Fi NOW in Amsterdam we’re delighted to welcome Steve Dyett of BT’s Wi-Fi Global Services.

Ziggo (Netherlands): You may not know this but Ziggo is one of the most aggressive new carrier Wi-Fi players out there. They’ve recently deployed several  thousand Wi-Fi hotspots on street cabinets in the Netherlands (they’ve got 200,000 of those – but so far about 2,000 have been equipped as hotspots). Herman Weerman joins us in Amsterdam – and he’s truly a Wi-Fi evangelist.

KPN (Netherlands): KPN recently teamed up with Fon to deliver ‘homespot’ connectivity and also operates thousands of other Wi-Fi hotspots across the Netherlands. Wi-Fi has become a strategic access technology for KPN. Valerie Stam & her team will join us at Wi-Fi NOW in Amsterdam.

Telenet (Belgium) is another Liberty Global company and they’re running both homespots and public Wi-Fi in Belgium. Telenet has come a long way in proving the real business value of public Wi-Fi including homespots. We’re delighted to welcome Stijn Eulaerts to Wi-Fi NOW.

Boingo Wireless (USA) is pretty much a household name for anyone who’s connected to Wi-Fi at an airport. But they’re also much more than that. Boingo recently signed offload deals with major carriers in the USA and is perhaps the world’s no. 1 advocate of Hotspot 2.0 Wi-Fi roaming. CTO Dr. Derek Petersonis possibly the world’s no. 1 carrier Wi-Fi expert and evangelist right now and someone not to miss at Wi-Fi NOW.

iPass (USA) doesn’t call itself a carrier and actually they more fit the bill of a new type of reinvented global Wi-Fi service provider. iPass recently extended its reach to 50 million hotspots. This is the first time in history a Wi-Fi network of this scale has been assembled. Meet iPass’ charismatic CEO & Wi-Fi industry leader Gary Griffiths in Amsterdam.
